Dr Neena Joseph

MBBS; MRCPSYCH; FRANZCP; CERT FORENSIC PSYCHIATRY

I am a specialist Adult & Forensic Psychiatrist in Auckland where I maintain a private practice. I am a Consultant Psychiatrist at Mason Clinic (Auckland Regional Forensic Psychiatric Services). I am a Honorary Academic at the University of Auckland.

I am a member of The Royal College of Psychiatrists in UK (2006), a fellow of The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (2009), and a certified Forensic Psychiatrist (2015).

I have gained international training & work experience in psychiatry for more than 15 years. I have worked widely in public, private and NGO mental health sectors. My work has been in diverse settings; community; inpatient; crisis; rehabilitation; prison. I conduct evaluation and management of Depression, Anxiety, Trauma, Obsessive-Compulsive, Bipolar, Psychotic and ADHD disorders.

As a forensic & private Psychiatrist, I have vast experience & training in conducting expert evaluations and testimonies for matters pertaining to civil & criminal litigation.

I grew up in Southern India where I completed my bachelor’s degree in medicine & surgery. Here I worked across many specialities in medicine, and enjoyed running a medical practice with my father in my local town.

In my mid 20’s, I moved to United Kingdom where I completed my speciality training in psychiatry and obtained the membership of The Royal College of Psychiatrists.

I made an intuitive move to New Zealand drawn to its natural beauty. Here, I completed specialist psychiatric training and obtained the fellowship of The Royal Australian & New Zealand College of Psychiatrists. I attained certificate in Forensic Psychiatry whilst I worked at the Auckland Regional Forensic Psychiatry Services.

My philosophy is to do individually tailored assessments and treatment plans for you; with empathy & compassion; in a safe & private clinical setting. With this goal, I apply treatment models that are effective & person and recovery-centred. Therapeutic interventions are carefully integrated to suit your needs and they are delivered in close collaboration with your family, GP, and existing therapists.

I have a passion for learning, and is a life long student of science. To that end, I keep my knowledge up to date with the contemporary events in psychiatry, and integrate this in to your care in ways that benefit you.

My special interests are translational neuroscience & digital psychiatry.
